Surrounding it and following the outline of the frame, the reproduction of different shields used throughout the history of our country, as well as the eagle found in the central part of the first page of the Mendocino Codex. Revers

A scene showing the image of a prairie dog followed by the "$" sign and then the number "5" on a line spacing that starts from the vertical axis towards the right, to the left the number "2001" and at the bottom the symbol of the Mexican Mint. In the upper left quadrant the inscription "PERRITO DE LAS PADERAS", as well as the name species scientist (Cynomys ludovicianus). In the lower left quadrant the legend "ENDANGERED ANIMALS".
