On the left side, Romania's Coat of Arms, the inscription "ROMANIA", the face value "500 LEI" and the year of issue "2004"; on the right side, the emblem of the University of Bucharest within the design depicting the Culture and Science; above and below the illustration, two ornamental elements.

Revers

Three main elements: the Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza's bust, one of the Prince's emblems and the University building; the inscriptions "UNIVERSITATEA DIN BUCURESTI" and "140 ANI" are circularly engraved on the upper part of the coin; below the image of the University building, the inscription "INTEMEIATA LA 1864 DE AL. IOAN CUZA".
