Avers
Crowned and armored King Karl IX, wearing a long ermine mantle, stands with head turned left on tiled floor. King holds a raised sword in right arm. At his right there is a crowned shield with Greater Arms of Sweden, while at left is a table with a scepter and a Globus Cruciger on it. Around King's figure is a double circle of legend with the radiant name of Jehovah in hebrew above King's head. First circle of legend is King's motto. Date in engraved on the side of the table (Karl IX, by the Grace of God, King of Sweden, of the Goths and the Wends etc. First founder and governor of the City of Göteborg

Revers
An oak tree with a shield with Sign of the City of Göteborg on its trunk stands between two mountains; at right a view of the newly built city with the dock (or a bridge) on the Göta River. On the River several ships are sailing , while on the other bank (in the foreground) is the old fortress of Älvsborg with numerous towers.
