There is a circular grotesque composition "the story-teller and listeners" consisting of "Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka" characters; in its center there is a portrait of N.Gogol with a quill pen in the hand; above there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the semicircular inscription НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine); beneath there is the legend 50 ГРИВЕНЬ (50 hryvnias).

Revers

There is a circular grotesque composition illustrating the "Christmas Eve" story; in the center there is the Christmas Star with the candle in the middle thereof whose flame is imitated by the yellow sapphire. Under the Star there is the semicircular inscription НІЧ ПЕРЕД РІЗДВОМ (Night before Christmas).
