The design depicts the tower of University of Coimbra and a visual composition of triangles representing the roofs of the university of Coimbra, the highest is of the Joanina Library within the lettering ‘UNIVERSIDADE DE COIMBRA 730 ANOS PORTUGAL 2020’ (English – UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA 730 YEARS PORTUGAL 2020). The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
