- Obverse
- From the dome of the Institut de France, rays (the Lights of Knowledge) and four stars (the four Academies), the face value, the words "INSTITUT DE FRANCE" and "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" being on both sides.
- Reverse
- A fiery and untied bundle is framed successively by the inscription "INSTITVT DES SCIENCES ET ARTS", by three laurel branches and by the date 1795 (foundation of the Institute), and by the motto "LIBERTY - EQUALITY - FRATERNITY".
