- The three-quarter face portrait of the economist Jacques Rueff (initiator of the new franc) and, to his right in the background, the Sower (evocation of the franc) are surrounded by the legend "1896 JACQUES RUEFF 1978" and the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE".
- Reverse
- An allegorical figure symbolizing Liberty stands between a laurel and oak leaf, images of glory and strength, and is surrounded by the motto "LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ".
