Description
2 Euros from Italy. Issued in 2009. Struck in Bimetallic: nickel brass clad nickel centre in copper-nickel ring. Measures 25.75 mm and weighs 8.5 g.
- Obverse
- An hand upon an open book as is the act of reading. Above the monogram of the Italian Republic and two seagulls in flight, symbols of free and universal knowledge. Below the book the name Louis Braille written in his relief writing system and the initials of the author, with mintmark at right. In the outer ring the twelve stars of European Union.
- Reverse
- Left the numer 2 indicating the value. At right six straight lines run vertically between the lower and upper right part of the coin. Twelve stars are superimposed on the lines, one just before the ends of each line. Below these lines there is a representation of the European continent. Above all is superimposed horizontally the word 'EURO'. Under the letter O, right, near the edge of the coin appears the monogram of the engraver (LL).
