Description
200 Escudos from Portugal. Issued in 1998. Struck in Copper-nickel. Measures 36 mm and weighs 21.1 g.
- Obverse
- The Portuguese coat of arms at the top and a map of the South African coast with a palm tree to the right with a line representing the trip at sea and a ship under sail to the right, towards the east to the left and a legend around (Portuguese Republic 1998 200 Escudos)
- Reverse
- Map of South Africa, Natal, "Christmas" in Portuguese because Vasco da Gama landed there 25 December 1497. A " pradao " stone column with a cross, on the coast, was built in Mossel Bay. A line along the coast marks the path and a boat sailed to the northeast. Legend around. (Africa Natal INCM A. Marinho Terra Do Natal December 25, 1497)
