Description
500 Lire from Italy. Issued in 1987. Struck in Silver (.835). Measures 29.3 mm and weighs 11 g.
- Obverse
- Unfaced winged woman, representing Victory, crosses the finish line, cutting the belt that transforms into the stadium when turns behind her back. A big star at the bottom. (Italian Republic)
- Reverse
- Two sprinters (one black, one white as a symbol of the fight against racism) are running on a field track, with the upper elements of the Colosseum in the background above them. Colosseum elements are parallel to the lines of the tracks and that creates a continuity between the stadium and the city where it belongs. The value, the mintmark, the date and the name of the engraver are in the lines of the running tracks. (World Championships in Athletics A. Valentini 500 Lire 1987 R)
- Edge
- Lettering in relief (Rome 1987 Rome 1987 Rome 1987)
