- Denomination within circle. Outer rim shows the national motto of the First Republic of Brazil, "Ordem e Progresso" (order and progress) and the date of the coup d'état, which took place on November 15th, 1889. (ORDER AND PROGRESS 100 RÉIS 15 OF NOVEMBER 1889)
