Obverse

In the center, the national shield in sculptural relief surrounded with the legend "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS". Surrounding it and following the outline of the frame, the reproduction of different shields used throughout the history of our country, as well as the eagle found in the central part of the first page of the Mendocino Codex. Reverse

A scene showing the image of a golden eagle perched on the trunk of a tree, followed by the number "2000" and to its left, on a spacing that starts from the vertical axis towards the left, the "$" sign and then the number "5". At the bottom the symbol of the Mexico Mint. In the upper right quadrant the inscription "AGUILA REAL". In the quadrant lower right the legend "ANIMALS IN DANGER OF EXTINCTION IN MEXICO". In the quadrant upper left the scientific name of the species (Aquila chrysaetos).
