2 Hryvni from Ukraine. Issued in 2005. Struck in Nickel brass (German silver). Measures 31 mm and weighs 12.8 g.

Obverse

On the right there is depicted a cell under a microscope - a conventionalized phagocytosis process; on the left there is 2005, the coin issue year and the small National Emblem of Ukraine. Around the coin circumference there are the inscriptions: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (on the left), the NBU Mint logotype and ДВІ ГРИВНІ (2/ hryvnia) (beneath).

Reverse

There is a portrait of Illia Mechnikov (displaced to the right) and 1845/1916, his years of life; left there is a semicircular inscription: ІЛЛЯ МЕЧНИКОВ (Illia Mechnikov)
