- Obverse
- In the center, a view of the chateau du Louvre during the reign of Philippe Auguste. On either side are the letters "R F", above the reign dates (1180-1223) and below the value "50 EURO".
- Reverse
- Portrait of King Philip II, known as Philip Augustus (1180-1223), wearing one of the first crowns with the royal lily. The name of the king is inscribed on the circumference of the coin, and below the marks of monetary workshops and the year.
- Edge
- Smooth, irregular edge.
