Obverse
The left profile of Marianne facing the wind and wearing the Phrygian cap is surrounded by the inscription: "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", this face was retained for the final coin.
Reverse
The republican motto "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE", the face value "20 CENTIMES", the word "ESSAI" and the year between two olive branches.
