Description
2 Euros - Benedictus XVI from Vatican City. Issued in 2012. Struck in Bimetallic: nickel brass clad nickel centre in copper-nickel ring. Measures 25.75 mm and weighs 8.5 g.
- Obverse
- The inner part of the coin features a family, with the Cathedral of Milan, the host city of the Seventh World Meeting of Families, in the background. The event is held every three years to highlight the family as a common human heritage, reflecting the fact that the family is universal and that it contributes to the human element of life everywhere in the world. Inscribed around the family scene are the names of the event and of the Vatican City in Italian and the year “2012”. The mintmark “R” appears between the boy and his mother. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
