Description
5 Euros from Cyprus. Issued in 2012. Struck in Silver (.925). Measures 38.61 mm and weighs 28.28 g.
- Obverse
- The original emblem of the Republic of Cyprus, which coincides with the emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the words "ΚΥΠΡΟΣ", "CYPRUS" and "KIBRIS" and the year "2012".
- Reverse
- A composition depicting a daisy enclosed in wavy circles. The daisy is a motif from a "lefkaritiko" lace, the embroidery of Lefkara village. The lefkaritiko embroidery is included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intagible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a characteristic example of the folklore tradition of Cyprus and reflects Cyprus' hospitality. The wavy circles around the motif symbolise the Mediterranean Sea surrounding Cyprus. The coin's nominal value of €5 and the wording "CYPRUS EU PRESIDENCY" are also depicted.
