Description
2 Dollars from Fiji. Issued from 2012 to 2014. Struck in Brass plated steel. Measures 24.39 mm and weighs 6.1 g.
- Obverse
- Peregrine Falcon (Ga Ni Vatu). On the right, name of the country, date and local name. The subspecies Falco peregrinus nesiotes found on Fiji can also be observed in New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Replaces the Queen's portrait after suspension of Fiji from the Commonwealth of Nations in 2009 (reinstalled 09/2014).
- Reverse
- Tanoa between denomination and local name. A Tanoa is a large deep wooden bowl used for the Sevusevu, ceremony of presentation of the Yaquna, Fijian name for Kava. A fiber cord with cowries is pointed to the guest of honor. It was already featured on the first 1 cent coins.
