- Two hundred years ago, President Thomas Jefferson won the approval of Congress to fund a mission to explore the uncharted American West. In 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, along with a team of explorers set out to find an overland path to the Pacific Ocean. The Lewis and Clark Expedition traveled for four years, documenting their exploration along the way. Today, the Lewis and Clark Expedition is remembered as one of the most daring expeditions in the history of mankind.
