- Obverse
- A geographical representation of the Italian peninsula with a circle of eleven stars. Above the Italy is laying a woman with a towered crown and wings on temples, whose long band wraps itself several times to surround a star in the woman's hands (the last of the twelve stars of the countries members of the European Union, the star of Italy). Outside the name of the twelve countries surrounds the composition with another line of legend far outside. (Italian Republic Austria - Finland - French - Sweden . Belgium - Italy - Denmark - Netherlands - Greece - Spain - Ireland - Luxembourg - United Kingdom - Germany - Portugal -)
- Reverse
- Inside a circle, in center, within two intersecting pentagons, the star of Italy is intertwined with an olive branch; below, the year of issue. Between the vertexes of the two pentagons, a symbol of science and perfection, the years in which Italy held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Legend outside the circle, together with the value. (Council of the European Union, Italian Presidency)
