- Obverse
- Portuguese coat of arms at the top, to the right a map of the South African coast with a palm tree. At sea, a line represents the trip. Below, a ship under sail to the right, towards the east. Legend around.
- Reverse
- Map of South Africa, Natal, "Christmas" in Portuguese because Vasco da Gama landed there 25 December 1497. A " pradao " stone column with a cross, on the coast was built in Mossel Bay. A line along the coast marks the path and a boat sailed to the northeast. Legend around.
