200 Escudos from Portugal. Issued in 1994. Struck in Silver (.925). Measures 36 mm and weighs 26.5 g.
- Obverse
- Center divided in 4 quarters. Top left and low right, wavy lines symbolising navigations, low left the Portuguese coat of arms, top right the personal arms of the King John II, a pelican woonding his chest to feed his chicks with the moto "Pela Lei e Pela Grei" ("by Law and by the People” written in ancient Portuguese. Around, name of the country and value, circle of pearls.
- Reverse
- Crowned portrait of João II of Portugal holding a ship of the 16th century, a lateen three masted caravel. Around, the name of the king, his title the perfect prince and the year of his death 1495.
