- In the centre, within a circle, a large Gothic M with two little globes between the strokes, representing the old logo of the Mint of Modena (1241-1288). Legend around in gothic letters (Italian Republic)
- Reverse
- In the centre of the coin a detail from the Protyrum with lions and snakes drawn from the bas-relief of the Cathedral of Modena. Date and Mintmark above, while value below. (Fauna in Art)
