Obverse

Above there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the semicircular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine); beneath there is indicated the coin face value ДЕСЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (ten hryvnias); to the left there is the coin issue year 2012. In the center there is depicted a fragment of the Donetsk oblast flag against the background of the oblast outline map.

Reverse

There are depicted figures of a metallurgist, miner and agricultural workwoman against the background of the oblast industrial landscape; to the right - the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in the city of Donetsk; above there is the semicircular inscription ДОНЕЦЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ (Donetsk Oblast) with the coat of arms of the oblast and legend 80 РОКІВ (80 years) thereunder.
