Description

Drachm from Sasanian Empire. Issued from 628 to 630. Struck in Silver (.900). Measures 30 mm and weighs 3.68 g.

Obverse
A portrait of a king facing right. There is a three-toothed crown, crescent and globe. A short ribbon falls away from the crescent. The diadem consist of two lines of beads. To the right by the crown there is a star with crescent. There is a "royal ribbon" above the king's shoulder. He wear a beard, curled hair, an earring, and a necklace consisting of small peas and three pendants. There are crescents under his shoulders and stars with crescents on the shoulders. On the field of the coin, there are three symmetrically placed stars with crescents. Pahlavi legend
Reverse
A fire altar (atasdan) with two straight standing figures with swords in their hands, wearing a headdress with a crescent. The column is covered with ribbons. To the left of the fire there is a star, to the right a crescent. On the rim there are four stars with crescent. Pahlavi legend
