Description
4 Mark from Sweden. Issued from 1604 to 1606. Struck in Silver (.821). Measures 41 mm and weighs 19.75 g.
- Obverse
- Armored bare-headed bust of Prince Karl, with raised right arm holding a scepter behind the shoulder. Prince bust is at top of a crowned shield with Greater Arms of Sweden (Three crowns of Sweden in first and fourth quadrant; Folkungs Lion in second and third; smaller shield with Vasa Arms in center). Shield and King are partially inside a circle with legend outside, along the rim. Date is divided at either sides of shield. (Karl, by the Grace of God, designed King and hereditary Prince of Sweden)
- Reverse
- Radiant sun with Hebrew letters for "Jehovah" within double inner circle with two different legend: King's motto in inner circle and value in letters in the outer one. (God is my comfort)
