- Obverse
- The Central Bank Building in the centre, within a circle with the legal tender value in large numerals and in words, in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The words Central Bank of Sri Lanka appear in Sinhala at the apex and in Tamil and English along the periphery, with 3 lotus designs in between.
- Reverse
- The symbol of the Sun in the centre within a circle. Around the circle the words Sri Lanka appear in Sinhala, Tamil and English and the year 2000. Eight auspicious symbols referred to by the designation Astamangala are depicted around periphery: Sankha (conch), Punkalasa (filled vessel), Srivatsa, Camara (fly-whisk), Ankusa (elephant goad), Matsy-yugala (pair of fish), Nandyavarta (curvilinear svastika) and Bhadrapitha (auspicious seat).
