Description

Drachm from Sasanian Empire. Issued from 417 to 438. Struck in Silver (.900). Measures 28 mm and weighs 3.64 g.

Obverse
A bust picture of Varhran V wearing a crown with two theet, a "pearl" a crescent and globes above it. The diadem is a large of beads. Small ribbons flow from the globe in the form of small beads. Ribbons fall from the right shoulder. The king's beard is tied. There is a pointed rim around the picture. Pahlavi legend (Mazda worshipper, the Lord (divive), joy of the country, Varhran king of kings)
Reverse
An atasdan with a capitellum and base. Along two sides of the altar are two figures wearing crowns with globes and crescents, and long spears in their hands. Th ecolumn of the atasdan is covered with ribbons. Above the capitellum is a tongue of flame in which there is a bust facing rigth.
