- The two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ 1996 г.» (TWO ROUBLES 1996), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). - The portrait of Fedor Dostoyevsky, to the left above - a view of several churches, below - the inscription in six lines "КРАСОТА СПАСЕТ МИР" (BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD), and a fragment of Raphael's painting Sistine Madonna, under them - a pair of shackles, to the right - two dates "1821" and "1881".
