Description
5000 Lei from Romania. Issued in 2000. Struck in Gold (.999). Measures 35 mm and weighs 31.1 g.
- Obverse
- Graphic composition within two semicircles, one proof and the other one frosted. On the proof surface, Romania's Coat of Arms, the year of issue "2000", the inscription "ROMANIA" and the face value "5000 LEI" are engraved. The signet of Mihai Viteazul, bearing the escutcheons of the three Romanian Provinces (the Wallachian eagle, the Moldavian aurochs and the Transylvanian lions), is engraved on the frosted surface; this seal validated a document issued by the Ruler's office in Iaşi on July 27, 1600.
- Reverse
- In the middle, the portrait of Mihai Viteazul; in the background, the spires of Mihai Vodă monastery on the banks of Dîmboviţa river in Bucharest; this monastery was founded by Mihai Viteazul while he was a high official; the inscription "400 ANI DE LA UNIREA TARII ROMANESTI, TRANSILVANIEI SI MOLDOVEI SUB MIHAI VITEAZUL" is engraved circularly; the years "1600" and "2000" are engraved one beneath the other.
