Description
Obol from Sasanian Empire. Issued from 273 to 276. Struck in Silver (.900). Measures 15 mm and weighs 0.65 g.
- Obverse
- A portrait picture of Varhran facing right in a radiant crown with a globe. On the globe there are ornamental points. Ribbons flow from the diadem with their ends upwards. The hair in the from of tightly twisted plaits. Bearded face and moustache. There is a single pointed rim around the picture. Around the neck there is a necklace of large beads.
- Reverse
- An "atasdan" in the form of high column with a base and capitellum. There are figures on both sides. One of them is the god Ahura Mazda, to the left wearing the crown of Shapur I.
