- Obverse
- Inside a circle is the "marzocco", a lion holding with its right forefoot a shield with the lily of Florence, symbol of republican liberty, from a sculpture realised by Donatello nowadays conserved at the Museo del Bargello in Florence. Outside the circle is the legend with lily of Florence at end (Italian Republic)
- Reverse
- Representation of a medal realized by Antonio di Puccio, also called Pisanello, probably in 1447, which depicts Gianfrancesco Gonzaga, first marquis of Mantova (1432-1444), advancing on a horse. Above is the value, while below is the date and the name of the author. (Fauna In Art)
