- Obverse
- Arms of Portugal below a cross of the Order of Avis. To the right, two ships used during the explorations to African and westward, a lateen and a square rigged caravel
- Reverse
- 3/4 portrait of Henri the Navigator (1394-1460), son of Joao I of Portugal, who promoted the portuguese explorations along the coasts of Africa and westward. To the right his Coat of Arms and moto "talant de bie fere" adopted today by the Portuguese Marine.
