- The inner part of the coin represents a dragon, surrounded by the inscriptions "Year of the Dragon" and "2012" the year of issue and Chinese characters. All around a frieze close to the scroll. The dragon is the fifth sign of the Chinese zodiac, it is a year of the Water Dragon.

- The portrait of Jean de la Fontaine as well as all the animals of the Chinese zodiac.
