Description
Apron Trachy from Byzantine Empire. Issued from 1187 to 1191. Struck in Billon. Measures 30 mm and weighs 3.92 g.
- Obverse
- Bust of Christ Emmanuel, beardless, nimbate, wearing pallium and colobium, holding scroll in left hand; in each limb of nimbus, 4 pellets displayed as square with a fifth one at centre. Inscription on either side of nimbus; beaded border.
- Reverse
- Isaac standing facing, crowned with stemma, wearing divitision and sagion, holding cruciger sceptre with right hand and akakia with left hand, Hand of God in upper right field. Inscriptions on either side; beaded border. (Isaakios Despotis:"Despot Isaac".)
