Description
Aspron Trachy from Byzantine Empire. Issued from 1187 to 1191. Struck in Billon. Measures 28 mm and weighs 3.44 g.
- Obverse
- Christ Emmanuel facing, seated on throne with back, beardless, nimbate with pellet in each limb of nimbus, wearing colobium and pallium, raising right hand in benediction and holding scroll with left hand. Inscriptions on either side of nimbus, along with vertical inscriptions in left and right fields; beaded border.
- Reverse
- Isaac Comnenus standing facing, crowned with stemma, clothed with divitision and loros, holding cruciger sceptre with right hand and akakia with left hand. Inscriptions on either side; beaded border. (Isaakios Despotis:"Despot Isaac".)
