- Obverse
- The stylized federal eagle, the traditional symbol of German sovereignty, surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union. Along the scroll is inscribed the state name "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" and the year. Below the eagle the words "SILBER 925" (silver 925‰), and above it the face value "20 EURO", as well as the workshop letter "J" from the Hamburg workshop.
