- Obverse
- Inspired by octopuses represented in Minoan art, listing in a variation of several curves the names of the twelve countries of the euro zone: «Belgium / België, Deutschland, Eire, España, France, Ellada, Italia, Luxembourg, Nederland, Österreich , Portugal, Suomi ». Distributed at the four ends of the "tentacles", the three French faces of the euro coins, and the initials "RF". The twelve stars of Europe and the face value "50 EURO" complete the composition that evokes the French uniqueness in the diversity of Europe.
- Reverse
- Portrait of the goddess Europe with stars in her hair, above 12 "€" monetary symbols in an arc. To the left of the portrait and below the flags on mats symbolizing the European flags.
- Edge
- Smooth with inscription "The 1st anniversary of the euro" and the number of the coin
