- Obverse
- The obverse of the coin shows its face value decorated with an oak branch and a laurel branch, evoking the Euro sign. The motifs on the reverse side are framed with a set of lines representing France's hexagonal shape.
- Reverse
- The reverse of the coin shows a Merovingian Triens in gold, being worth one third. During Dagobert time, the gold coins were the solidus (or penny), the semi (or half-penny) and the triens. A penny was worth 40 silver deniers.
