Obverse
At the core the German eagle, the mint letter and the date. The outer circle shows the face value, the name of the Federal Republic of Germany and the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse
A striking portrayal of the cultural landscapes that are particularly representative of the temperate zone, illustrated by the stylised farmland and forest edge. The European hare shown in the centre of the image is a common sight in the open landscapes of the temperate zone. The change of seasons typical of this type of climate is embodied by the autumnal oak branch. The silhouette depicts the mixed deciduous forests that characterise temperate landscapes.
