Description

Double Shekel - Ba'alshallim I from Satrapy of Phenicia. Issued from -425 to -407. Struck in Silver. Measures 28 mm and weighs 28.29 g.

Obverse
City-wall with five battlemented towers, before which lies an armed galley. At the stern is a standard, surmounted by a disc and crescent. In exergue are two lions back to back. Above the exergual line the Phoenician letters... cable border.
Reverse
Incuse circle and dotted border, within which the King and his charioteer in quadriga, left.; horses galloping; beneath the horses and ibex or wild goat, ineuse, strotehed out towards left., its head turned right. Under the goat a Phoenician iscription (retrograde ?)
