Description
250 Dollars - Elizabeth II from Canada. Issued in 2016. Struck in Gold (.9999). Measures 38 mm and weighs 60.08 g.
- Obverse
- Head on the right of Queen Elizabeth II, 77 years old, without crown, wearing a necklace and earrings. (Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
- Reverse
- The design on the reverse is inspired by the Vladimir tiara, which was made with the famous Cambridge emeralds. The Royal Canadian Mint's engravers worked with renowned jeweller Steve Thompson (of Thompson S.D. Jewellers Ltd.) to integrate gem-setting into the coining process. The result is a rare, meticulously crafted piece reminiscent of the composition of the tiara: diamonds arranged in circles with an emerald in the middle of each. The famous tiara is further evoked in the carefully engraved motif around the piece: 90 circles in honor of the Queen's 90th birthday, a historic event appropriately highlighted by the double-dated inscription "1926-2016".
