Description
100 Euros from France. Issued in 2023. Struck in Gold (.999). Measures 31 mm and weighs 15.5 g.
- Obverse
- Three quarter length figure of sower walking left. Behind her, sunburst encircled by overlapping hexagons, and with RF at center. (French Republic)
- Reverse
- Bust of Midas at left, facing right toward bust of his daughter, holding gold apple. Date above. This collector's currency represents Midas, king of Phrygia. Honored with the gift of changing everything he touches in pure gold thanks to the god Dionysos, Midas suffered very quickly from a power which had to make it infinitely rich. Unable to eat or quench his thirst, he sought the comfort of his daughter's arms who changed into a golden statue. He therefore implored Dionysos to remove this gift from him, and due to legend washing in the river Cork to be able to get rid of this curse. This currency presents a selective gilding with a fine gold echoing the myth. (French Republic)
