Description
½ Portugaloser = 5 Ducat from Denmark. Issued from 1655 to 1656. Struck in Gold. Measures 41 mm and weighs 17.2 g.
- Obverse
- Crowned bust of King in high armor and with long hairs facing right. The bust is inside a rope circle that in upper part touches King's crown. Legend outside the circle. (Frederik III Dei Gratia King of Denmark (DAN), Norway (NOR), the Wends (VAN) and the Goths (GOT).)
- Reverse
- Oval arms of Denmark in center; around, surrounding and connected to central arm, 11 flat-topped shields with arms of Danish provinces. Above the two top shields is the Crown of Denmark with at the base a rope that encircles all the shields. At the lower part of the rope is attached the pendant of the Order of the Elephant. Date and mintmark are at the end of the legend. (The Lord will be my guide.)
