- Obverse
- At the bottom left, the text 'BELGIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU 2024'. Centrally across the coin, 27 swallows (27 member states) swarm around the country code BE. The swallow moves in unison and flies in one group after the trigger. Swallows are helpful, industrious and loyal. Left: 'IB' the initials of designer Iris Bruijns, above the mintmaster's mark (an erlenmeyer flask with aster) and the mintmark of the Royal Dutch Mint (the Mercury staff).
- Reverse
- A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. 12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments
- Edge
- Fine flute engraving: the inscription "2★★", repeated six times, is oriented alternately from bottom to top and from top to bottom.
